Leadership
Michael Whitmore
Michael Whitmore is a 5th year PhD student in Mechanical Engineering. He received his BSE in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University in 2019. His research focuses on flow physics and turbulence modeling to achieve accurate and cost-effective fluid simulation of complex technologies like aircraft and turbines. He also enjoys trail running, cycling, and hiking.
Anjini Chandra
Anjini Chandra is a second-year Ph.D. student in the Mechanical Engineering department. She graduated from Caltech in 2022 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Information and Data Sciences (IDS). Currently, she is investigating turbulent boundary layer flows under transcritical and supercritical conditions using large-scale simulations on high-performance computing facilities. In her spare time, Anjini also really enjoys playing the piano, folding origami, reading, puzzles, playing dodgeball, and tossing a frisbee.
Gowri Subedar
Gowri Subedar is a first-year Ph.D. student in Mechanical Engineering with a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Dharwad, India, where she graduated in 2022. Currently, her research focuses on utilizing control theoretic approaches to develop a mathematical model of the ‘gut-skin’ axis in psoriasis pathogenesis. Beyond her academic pursuits, Gowri has a keen interest in novels, sports, and numismatics.
Omkar Shende
Omkar Shende is a sixth-year Ph.D. student in the department of Mechanical Engineering. He graduated in 2018 with a B.S.E. in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Princeton University. His current projects revolve around quantifying the interactions between turbulence and chemistry in complex flows. Outside of the lab, he enjoys cooking, reading, hiking, and racquet sports.
Kim Liu
Kim Liu is a seventh-year PhD student majoring in Mechanical Engineering. She received her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Caltech in 2017. Her current research interests include superhydrophobic surfaces and turbulence modeling. She also enjoys running, yoga, dumplings, and two-day shipping.
Kim is involved with teacher training.
Carlos Gonzalez
Carlos Gonzalez is a sixth-year PhD student majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Caltech in 2017. He currently works on transition modeling for LES. In his free time, he watches the NBA and free climbs.
Carlos manages finances and finds funding sources for seeME.
Gianluca Iaccarino
Gianluca Iaccarino is a Mechanical Engineering Professor and Director of the Institute for Computational Mathematical Engineering. He is the faculty sponsor of seeME.
